What is Nebulizer and How is it used?

If you have asthma, your doctor may recommend a nebulizer as treatment or breathing therapy. Through this article, you come to know - what actually the nebulizer is and how it is used. A nebulizer is a device that changes medication from a liquid to a mist so a patient can inhale it, into the lungs. There are various tabletop nebulizers and different portable models available in the market. 

Nebulizers are generally good for infants or small children’s asthma treatment. It is also helpful when you have a problem in using an inhaler or require a big dose of inhaled drugs.

How can you use Nebulizer?

Being an adult you can even opt for an inhaler instead, which is usually the same effective. But a nebulizer can provide medicine with less attempt than an inhaler. Go for the one which your doctor prescribed. Here, by following the below mentioned steps, you can use it efficiently.

Apply the below-given instructions to use a nebulizer:-

  1. Firstly, place the compressor on a flat surface where it can easily reach an outlet.
  2. Inspect and ensure that all the pieces are clean.
  3. Before preparation of medication, wash your hands. 
  4. Put it in the container, if the medication is premixed. If you require to mix it, estimate the correct amount and then place it in the container.
  5. Attached the tube to the compressor and the liquid container.
  6. Then, connect the mouthpiece or mask.
  7. Turn the switch on and see the nebulizer is misting.
  8. Put the mouthpiece in your mouth and close the mouth properly around it. Then. place the mask securely over your nose and mouth without leaving any gap.
  9. Take your breath slowly in and out until the medicine is gone. It may take around 5-15 minutes. 
  10. Throughout the procedure, keep the liquid container upright 

With aforementioned, you can easily and efficiently get your medication through nebulizers.
